Surprise, Surprise and more surprise. I think it is best way to describe this auction. As it began today in Mumbai with a big surprise right away when Pak star player Shahid Afridi found no bidders. In IPL 3 auction none of the Pak players able to attract any bidder and major reason for the same is that team owners does not want themself to land in any controversies by taking any Pak players as they may face visa issues. Apart from Pak players following players were also fail to attract Bidders:
Pak players Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanveer, Kamral Akmal, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan not soldShakib al Hasan (Bangladesh), Upul Tharanga (Sri Lanka), Brad Haddin (Australia), Graeme Swann (England), Justin Kemp (SA), Kulasekera (SL), Darren Ganga (WI), Jason, Grant Elliott (NZ) and Doug Bollinger failed to attract any bidders.
Kieron Pollard (WI) was the star attraction with the bidding going into a tie-breaker. Pollard was finally bagged by Mumbai Indians for $750,000 but the amount for the tie-breaker has not been disclosed.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers were involved in another tie-breaker for ex-ICL player Shane Bond. The bid was finally won by KKR.
Rajasthan Royals, winner of IPL 1 bought ex-ICL player from Australia Damien for $100,000.
Kemar Roach (WI) was bought by Deccan Chargers for $720,000.
Sri Lankan Thissara Perera was bought by Chennai Super King for $50,000.
Mohd Kaif (Ind) was bought over by Kings XI Punjab for $250,000.
Eoin Morgan (Eng) was bagged by Bangalore Royal Challengers for $220,000.
Under-19 players auction:
Bangalore picked Indian Under-19 captain Ashok Meenaria.Deccan Charges took Harmeet SinghMumbai Indians got Harsha Patel.
Now with this Auction over we all are waiting for March 12, 2010 for exciting third edition of IPL. If we looks at the team line up Mumbai Indians look very strong with batting line up (Jayasurya, Sachin, Pollard, Bravo, Nair), apart from MI, Deccan Chargers and Chennai super king can upset any formidable team. RCB, runner up of last edition will try to win this time. But again we can’t deny the fact that Delhi Dare devil and Punjab are very good team and performed well in both editions, but failed to make podium finish, so they will be all geared up for making it this time.Last but not the least Rajasthan Royals, the real dark horse, will depend on Warne magic and remind you all that they are capable of doing any upset.
So stage is ready, just wait for the play to begun.
Cheersssss…….
