What's the story?

Indian batsman KL Rahul has made the biggest donation for the ailing former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin, who is in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Baroda. Although Mumbai Mirror report that the amount remains to be unearthed, it was the highest contribution made by anyone.

In case you didn't know...

Martin, a former Indian cricketer, met with an unfortunate road accident that saw him damage his liver and lungs. And as soon as the incident unfolded, he was rushed to the ICU. The family fell short of money and were reluctant to ask anybody, but the cricketing fraternity stood up to help their servant.

The heart of the matter

Out of the members of the cricketing world, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel among others have provided monetary and emotional support to the family in need.

In fact, Krunal Pandya even sent a blank cheque to Martin, saying, "Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh."

And now KL Rahul, who has endured a disastrous couple of months both on and off the field, has portrayed how noble a man he is. Martin, from his hospital bed, took to the newspapers to thank the Indian opener and also gave an account of his situation.

The 46-year-old said:

“A big thanks to Rahul and everyone who has helped. “The body is reacting very well to treatment and I am now in a stable condition. I'm hoping to be home in a couple of days and I want to return to the ground. I can't wait for it, I just want to get back to cricket."

According to Martin's wife as quoted by the Mumbai Mirror:

"They asked about our immediate requirement and the money was transferred into our account the same day."

What's next?
