Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has predicted England to win the upcoming Test series against India at home. The five-match affair will officially kick-start the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, and is scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Team India are on the lookout for their first red-ball series win on English shores since 2007. However, they will be without some of the senior stars as the likes of R Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, all announced their retirements ahead of the tour.

Team India have had to escalate their transition plans in terms of leadership and personnel amid the rapid changes after the disastrous Border-Gavaskar series loss. Shubman Gill has been named as the new Test captain, while a slew of new call-ups like Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh make their presence felt to give the squad a different look.

England are also under pressure to deliver after missing out on qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) three times in a row now.

Dale Steyn predicts a closely contested series with Ben Stokes and co. coming out on top in the end.

“All games will be close. But all will have a result. I think it will be 3-2 in favour of England. There will be a result in every Test match. There will be no runaway win for any team, all five games will be very close," Steyn said on Star Sports (via Inside Sport).

India have been competitive across their last two trips to England, but a series win agonisingly continues to elude them. The Men in Blue won two Tests on their last tour of England as well, but had to remain content with a 2-2 draw.

England yet to lose a home series under the Stokes-McCullum reign ahead of India Tests

England's red-ball game saw a drastic shift after Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took over as captain and head coach in 2022. Since then, they have been dominant, especially at home, recording series wins over New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

England came close to losing a home series during the 2023 Ashes, when Australia took a 2-0 lead in the five-match affair. The hosts, however, staged a fighting comeback to level the series 2-2, including a famous win at The Oval in the series finale.
