ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table (updated) as on May 10 after IRE vs BAN 2023 1st ODI

South Africa sealed their place in the top eight of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table as the first ODI between Ireland and Bangladesh produced no result. Ireland needed a 3-0 series win against Bangladesh to qualify for the mega event, but it is no longer possible now.

Courtesy of the no result in Chelmsford last night, Ireland and Bangladesh earned five points each in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table. Ireland now have 73 points in their account after 22 matches. They hold the 11th position in the standings.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, are fourth in the table with 135 points from 22 matches. The second ODI of this series will take place on May 12 in Chelmsford.

Ireland will aim to finish in the Top 10 of ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table

Ireland will have to play a qualifying tournament to make it to the ICC Cricket World Cup now. They will aim to gain some momentum before that tournament by winning the remaining ODIs against Bangladesh.

Speaking of the first ODI between the two teams which took place on Tuesday, May 9, Bangladesh scored 246/9 in their 50 overs. Ireland were 65/3 after 16.3 overs when rain forced the officials to abandon the match. Only 3.3 overs were needed for a result via D/L method, but rain did not allow any action after 16.3 overs in the Irish innings.

Ireland can move up from 11th to ninth position in the points table if they win the remaining two ODIs against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh can finish as high as the second position if they beat Ireland convincingly in the remainder of the series.

As far as ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is concerned, India, Afghanistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan have qualified for the mega event via the Super League.
