Indian batter Shreyas Iyer walked out in style to bat with sunglasses on in the glaring Anantapur heat during Day 2 of the India D vs India A 2024 Duleep Trophy clash. However, his outing did not last long as he was dismissed for a seven-ball duck to prolong his red-ball misery.
After restricting the Mayank Agarwal-led India A to 290 in the first innings, India D skipper, Shreyas Iyer, came out to bat at No.3 in the first over itself. The right-handed batter had the task of building a strong start after Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Atharva Taide.
Iyer had fended off the left-arm pacer to survive the first over, and was met with the same matchup when he returned to strike in the third over. Khaleel Ahmed had kept things tight with six straight dot balls at Iyer, to build some pressure. Eager to get off the mark, Iyer tried an expansive shot off a fuller delivery, but failed to keep it down and was caught at mid-on by Aaqib Khan.

The dismissal left India D at 6-2, and as of writing, they have slumped further to 56-4 inside the first session of the day. The pair of Devdutt Padikkal and Ricky Bhui are occupying the crease following Sanju Samson's departure for just five runs.
Shreyas Iyer was not considered for the Test series against Bangladesh
Shreyas Iyer's poor returns in the Duleep Trophy, and his streaky red-ball record of late prompted the selectors to look elsewhere in terms of middle-order options. The return of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, and Sarfaraz Khan's promising start have pushed Iyer down in the pecking order.
The India D skipper scored a quickfire fifty in the second innings against India C, but scored only nine runs in the first innings. He also had a poor tour of Sri Lanka, scoring only 38 runs in three matches in the 0-2 series loss.
