South Africa and Australia will clash in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at the iconic Lord's Cricket Stadium from June 11 to June 15. The Proteas will be led by Temba Bavuma, while the Aussies will be captained by Pat Cummins. South Africa topped the WTC 2023-25 points table on the basis of percentage points, while Australia finished in second place.
Australia, who are also the defending champions, will go into the summit clash as firm favorites. The likes of Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith and Travis Head have the experience of winning big finals and performing in crunch situations. Australia are the reigning ODI world champions as well. As for the Proteas, they have only won one ICC event, which was way back in 1998.
While the South Africa vs Australia WTC final is scheduled to end of June 15, June 16 has been marked as a reserve day for the summit clash if needed. The reserve day will, however, only come into effect if time has been lost due to bad weather across the five days of the Test. If lost time cannot be made up within the five days, then the reserve day can be used to achieve a result.
On the contrary, if full five days of play is completed during the 2025 WTC final between Australia and South Africa, the reserve day cannot be used to achieve a result. In case the WTC final at Lord's ends in a draw or a tie or the match gets abandoned, both Australia and South Africa will be declared joint winners.
