Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame for the year 2025 on Monday, June 9. The 43-year-old was inducted into the Hall of Fame at an event in London on Monday.
Dhoni played nearly 15 years of international cricket for India since debuting in 2004. He played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for India before announcing his international retirement in August 2020.
"It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever," Dhoni told the ICC website.
Dhoni led India to a Test series win in New Zealand in 2009 and also captained India to Test victories at Durban in 2010 and at Lord's in 2014. In white-ball cricket, he is the only captain to have a T20 World Cup, an ODI World Cup, and a Champions Trophy title.
Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith also inducted in the Hall of Fame
Along with MS Dhoni, former Australian opening batter Matthew Hayden, and former South African batter Hashim Amla were also inducted into the Hall of Fame on Monday.
Hayden was part of Australia's ODI World Cup-winning teams in 2003 and 2007. He holds the record for the highest individual score made by an Australian in Test cricket when he made 380 against Zimbabwe at Perth in 2003.
Amla represented South Africa for 15 years between 2004 and 2019. Like Hayden, he holds the record for the highest individual score made by a South African in Test cricket. He made an unbeaten 311 against England at The Oval in 2012.
Amla's long-time captain, Graeme Smith, was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame for his contribution to the game. The former Proteas skipper led South Africa in 109 Tests- the most by any captain in the longest format. Among his notable achievements as captain were twin series wins in England in 2008 and 2012 and in Australia in 2008/09 and 2012.
Daniel Vettori, who was part of the New Zealand team between 1997 and 2015, was another inductee into the Hall of Fame. Sana Mir created history by becoming the first women's player from Pakistan to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
