Shaheen Afridi reclaims No.1 spot in latest ICC ODI rankings for bowlers

Pakistan ace pacer Shaheen Afridi has reclaimed his No.1 spot in the latest ICC men's ODI rankings for bowlers. The left-arm pacer made rapid strides after taking eight wickets in three matches against Australia as Pakistan registered their first series win Down Under since 2002.

Afridi moved up three places, dethroning South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, who moved to third. He reclaimed the World No.1 status for the first time after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Afghanistan ace spinner Rashid Khan retained the second spot.

Apart from Afridi, his teammate Haris Rauf improved 14 rungs to 13th after emerging as the leading wicket-taker in the series, with 10 scalps in three matches. His compatriot Naseem Shah also rose 14 places to joint 55th.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz rose nine rungs to joint 23rd and West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie climbed one spot to 14th among bowlers.

As far as batting is concerned in the latest ICC men's ODI rankings, Babar Azam extended his lead at the No.1 spot after scoring 80 runs against Australia. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan also improved two places to joint 23rd after his 74 runs Down Under.

Other notable movers were Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (up 11 places to joint 23rd), and Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai (rose two spots to joint 31st).

Among all-rounders in the latest ICC men's ODI rankings, Afghanistan’s seasoned pro Mohammad Nabi consolidated his No.1 spot while Mehidy and Omarzai rose four and two places to fourth and ninth, respectively.

Meanwhile, West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicolas Pooran has climbed one spot to 10th in the latest ICC men's T20I batter’s rankings. Meanwhile, England duo Phil Salt and skipper Jos Buttler also improved one place each to second and sixth, respectively.

India’s Sanju Samson rose 27 rungs to 39th following his back-to-back centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa. Other key movers were South Africa opener Reeza Hendricks (up two places to 12th) and his teammate Tristan Stubbs (up 12 spots to 26th).

Among bowlers, Sri Lanka ace spinner Wanindu Hasarangra jumped four places to second in the latest ICC men's T20I rankings. England’s Adil Rashid consolidated his No.1 spot, while Akeal Hosein maintained the third spot. India spinner Ravi Bishnoi gained one spot to seventh in the top 10.

Other movers were New Zealand duo Mitchell Santner (up four places to 13th) and Lockie Ferguson (up 10 rungs to 15th), England speedster Jofra Archer (climbed 10 spots to 21st), and Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana (rose 22 places to joint 31st). Varun Chakaravarthy broke into the top 100 to joint 64th after taking eight wickets in the first two games, including a five-wicket haul, against South Africa.

England’s Liam Livingston continued to dominate the list of all-rounders in the latest men's T20I rankings. Wanindu Hasaranga (up one place to fifth) and Romario Shephard (up four rungs to eighth) broke into the top ten list.
