India will embark on a new era in Test cricket when newly appointed captain Shubman Gill and his side take on England in a five match series, starting at Leeds on Friday, June 20. The members of the squad were involved in an intense training session at Beckenham ahead of the series.
In a video shared on BCCI's X handle, the likes of Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant could be seen having a bat in nets while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh had a bowling session, under the watchful eyes of the support staff.
Also, in the video Sudharsan and Pant can be seen having a discussion on bats. Bowling coach Morne Morkel could also be seen chatting with the team members in a huddle.
Team India to play India A in an intra-squad match at Beckenham on June 13
As part of their final preparations before the opening Test against England, the 18-man India squad will take on India A in a four-day intra-squad match at Beckenham, starting on June 13. The India A squad is currently involved in a four-day unofficial Test match against England Lions at Northampton.
KL Rahul, who linked-up with the India A squad before the match, made 116 runs off 168 balls in the first innings. He followed that performance with a 64-ball 51 in the second innings.
The first unofficial Test match between India A and England Lions at Canterbury ended in a draw. However, there were a few positives for the visitors, one of which was Karun Nair scoring 204 off 281 balls to boost his chances of making it to the playing XI for the series opener at Leeds on June 20.
India have not won a Test series in England since 2007. They drew the last series 2-2 in 2021/22.
