England series marks the beginning of a new era for Team India in Test cricket
The upcoming five-match Test series in England marks the beginning of a new era for Team India in Test cricket. With Rohit Sharma announcing his retirement from the format, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain.
Further, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin will also no longer feature in the Test arena. Without the three stalwarts, it will be a challenging series in overseas conditions for Gill's transitioning side.
India lost both of their last two Test series, against New Zealand at home and Australia away. Thus, they will be eager to bounce back and make a mark straightaway.
It also marks the beginning of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for the team, adding to the importance and significance of this tour.
