Former England batter Kevin Pietersen and Australian batting legend Mark Waugh have reacted to Mickey Arthur's suggestions for Pakistan ahead of their second Test match against England. Both former batters mentioned their opinions under Arthur's post on his official social media account.

Arthur was Pakistan's former head coach, and under his tutelage, the Men in Green won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, beating arch-rivals India in the final. From his observations in the past, Arthur put out a five-point tweet mentioning what Pakistan needed to do to turn their fortunes around ahead of the second Test.

Arthur said:

“Just a few thoughts as a follower of Pakistan cricket! 1.The players are very very skilled and are the right one's. 2.The inconsistency around selection, environment and administration plays a role in team morale, give the players structure and they will perform!”

To this, he went on to add:

“3.The vile rhetoric from media and media-driven agendas do not help! 4.The promotion of players by player agents or media makes the player sometimes think he is way more important than he is in reality creating a false view! 5.Playing for Pakistan should be the best time ever!”

Former English batting ace Kevin Pietersen mentioned what was going wrong from his experiences of playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He wrote:

"From my time playing the PSL, the players don’t train properly and there’s way too much emotion involved in the win or loss. No consistency off the field, so how do you expect it on the field? And I agree, the talent is UNREAL!"

Australian batting legend Mark Waugh also put his two cents in the replies of the post. He wrote:

"Bland lifeless batter friendly pitches are being produced to help the home team not to lose rather than to win. This is turn produces 1-Negative mindset 2- Batters don’t need solid techniques to score runs. 3-Fast Bowlers bowl within themselves and spinners bowl negative lines."

Pakistan handed a drubbing in the first Test against England in the PAK vs ENG 2024 Test series

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first in the first Test against England in Multan. They posted 556 runs in 149 overs thanks to centuries from skipper Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, and Agha Salman.

England responded with a bang, with their batters playing their usual brand of cricket. Harry Brook scored a triple hundred (317) while Joe Root registered his highest Test score (262) as the visitors declared on 823/7.

England, despite having a lead of 267 runs, skittled Pakistan for 220 with only Agha Salman (63) and Aamer Jamal (55*) resisting the English bowling attack with fifties. Jack Leach starred with a four-fer, with the visitors winning the Test by an innings and 47 runs.

Both teams will square against each other at the same venue in the second Test, starting October 15.
