Tim Southee provided an early breakthrough for New Zealand by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma on a duck on Day 1 of the second Test in Pune on Thursday, October 24. The right-handed batter faced eight balls before registering a duck on the ninth delivery.
The dismissal came in the third over of India’s first innings. Southee bowled a good length ball around middle and off and Rohit tried to defend it with no foot movement. The ball nipped back and beat Rohit’s edge before clipping the top of the off-stump. There was a slight deflection off the back pad.
As a result, India lost their first wicket for just one run.

Rohit Sharma has failed to stay consistent in his last four Test matches. The senior batter scored 6, 5, 23, and 8 in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The Mumbai-born player then returned with 2 and 52 in the first Test of the three-match Test series against New Zealand. He, however, slammed two centuries during the five-match Test series against England earlier this year.
