Australian opener Travis Head cracked his sixth one-day international century against England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday, September 19. The left-handed batter took a single off Matthew Potts' bowling as the right-arm seamer bowled a full toss.
He completed the achievement in the 30th over of the innings as Potts sent down a full toss well outside off and the 30-year-old creamed it to deep point. Having reached the three-figure mark, the southpaw put his helmet on the top of his bat to celebrate the milestone. He also got there in only 92 deliveries.
The South Australian was also in imperious form during the preceding three-game T20I series. He hammered a 23-ball 59 in the opening match in the tourists' 28-run win. He captained Australia in the second T20I, but his opening cameo resulted in a losing cause.
Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne share unbroken stand as Australia romp home comfortably in Nottingham
While captain Mitchell Marsh departed early, the left-hander shared a half-century hand with Steve Smith in the chase of 316. The former skipper perished for 32 as Liam Livingstone gobbled up a caught and bowled chance. Nevertheless, Head had another strong partnership with Cameron Green, who also departed for 32 off as many deliveries.
Marnus Labuschagne, who entered next, was slow to start and also survived a close lbw shout against Adil Rashid thanks to the umpire's call. Labuschagne's takedown of Livingstone in the 37th over was the turning point of the chase as he slammed two sixes and a boundary to settle the nerves. Labuschagne brought up his half-century in 42 deliveries and boundaries were coming for Australia easily moving forward.
The tourists eventually crossed the line in 44 overs with seven wickets to spare as Head (154*) and Labuschagne (77*) remained unbeaten. Their partnership was an unbroken 148. The second ODI will take place in Leeds on Saturday.
