Shafali Verma shines as India dominate Nepal in commanding victory

India Women elected to bat after winning the toss. Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar were rested for this match. Smriti Mandhana captained the Indian side. Shafali Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha added 122 runs for the opening wicket. It was the fifth-highest partnership for India for the first wicket.

Hemalatha scored 47 runs off 42 deliveries before getting dismissed in the 14th over. Shafali didn’t remain in the middle for long and was dismissed in the 16th over after making 81 runs off 48 deliveries. Jemimah Rodrigues played a quick-fire knock of 28 runs off 15 deliveries.

India posted 178 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. Sita Rana Magar was the pick of the bowlers for Nepal and took two wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Kabita Joshi picked the remaining one wicket.

Nepal scored 31 runs in the powerplay and lost two wickets. Only four batters managed to make a double-digit score for Nepal and no batter managed to cross the 20-run mark.

Nepal finished with 96 runs for the loss of nine wickets and lost the match by 82 runs. Deepti Sharma took three wickets for 13 runs in four overs. Arundhati Reddy and Radha Yadav picked two wickets each. Shafali won the Player of the Match award for her batting performance.
