What's the story?

After clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney Cricket Ground by 2-1, the Indian cricket team on Monday achieved several distinctive milestones. The Virat Kohli-led side became the first Asian country to win a Test series in Australia.

Cricket fraternity has since been in praise to Kohli's men for this comprehensive historic victory. In latest of that, the Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan congratulated Virat Kohli and team India for the win.

"Congratulations to Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team for the first ever win by a subcontinent team in a test series in Australia" the former legendary cricketer Tweeted earlier on Tuesday, 8th January.


In case you didn't know

The Asian teams including Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have played 31 Test series in Australia and India's 2-1 win on Monday was the first ever successful one for the subcontinent side. Pertinently, Kohli and coach, Ravi Shastri later termed this series win as no less than a World Cup victory.

The Indians started the four-match series on a high note after they cruised past Australia in the first Test at Adelaide. However, hosts made a strong comeback in the second match, levelling the series at Perth. Though, the Asian cricket giants made sure to get the 2-1 lead at Melbourne.

Similarly, they displayed a great show in the fourth and final Test as well, however, the rain became the barrier. Aussies were trailing by over 300 runs when the match was declared draw at SCG on day five.

What's next?

The confident team India will look to conquer the 3-match ODI series as well. They would hope to carry the rhythm and create the history for one more time.

MS Dhoni and other others who were not part of Test squad have joined the team. The first ODI is scheduled for January 12 at Sydney.
