The head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, will be paying a ‘Royal Visit’ to the opening of the second Ashes Test where she will savour part of first day’s play between Australia and England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The day of the match will begin with the British Monarch being introduced to the captains of both competing teams, followed by the respective players and the match officials, before the official commencement of the game.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the Queen will tour the historic Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) Long Room with the ground’s secretary Derek Brewer and president Mike Griffith to guide her, after which she will convene with the coaching staff of both teams, before going up to watch the spectacle on the MCC balcony.
Coincidentally, during the 87-year-old Monarch’s previous visit to the birth place of cricket in the month of July, 2009, the home side dominated Australia throughout the course of the game and went on to win it by a whopping margin of 115 runs, the visitor’s second-only defeat at Lord’s.
The local fans and supporters would be hoping for the same today with the presence of the special spectator.
