Reports: Shashank Manohar to be felicitated by BCCI today

Shashank Manohar, who recently stepped down as the president of the Board of Control in India (BCCI) will be felicitated by the members of the board on 21 May, for becoming the first independent chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC). BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur will be hosting a farewell dinner in honour of Manohar on the eve of the Special General Meeting (SGM).

Manohar is currently on a holiday after stepping down from the BCCI post on 10 May and has agreed to attend the function but as per regulations will not be a part of the SGM. According to reports, the former BCCI president is expected to reach the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai around noon today.

Manohar will attend the felicitation and dinner which is scheduled to be held in a five-star hotel to bid adieu to his colleagues at the Cricket House. He will return back to Pune on Sunday morning to restart his break.

Anurag Thakur is currently out of the country and is expected to be back in Mumbai on Saturday evening. He is also the front runner for the president’s post. Thakur will hold a discussion with Manohar and with his close allies to discuss several contentious issues that the new leadership has to handle in the upcoming months.

Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke is all set to fill the secretary’s post vacated by Thakur. Shirke will also be a part of that discussion and is expected to reach Mumbai on Saturday morning.

The SGM on Sunday has been called to fill the vacant president’s post following the resignation of Manohar, should see a smooth transition as the he is set to be elected unopposed as the 31st Board president.

The man from Himachal Pradesh will then propose Shirke’s name for the secretary’s post. The post will be simply filled by nomination and no election as it has fallen vacant mid-term. Shirke will be backed by the majority of the members.

After the SGM, a Working Committee meeting will also be held where the BCCI members will discuss several issues besides ratifying the appointments of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in line with the Lodha committee's recommendations.
