Rohit Sharma once again failed to convert a good start into a big score

Former India captain Anil Kumble has said that he is unhappy at the manner in which middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma got out in the first innings of the second Test against Australia at Brisbane. The 27-year-old was caught for 32 by skipper Steven Smith off the bowling of Shane Watson.

The 44-year-old, who picked up a colossal 619 wickets in Test Cricket, said that Rohit should’ve have been a bit more patient and should’ve learnt from the way in which fellow teammates Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane batted on the same pitch.

"Rohit had spent some time in the middle on day one but played that expansive drive too early on Thursday morning. At Brisbane, the ball always does something early on and it was still a new ball to boot, so Rohit should have waited for some more time and settled in further and built on what the likes of Vijay and a very impressive Rahane had done,” Kumble wrote in his column for a leading English newspaper.

"Rohit wasted a good start and I must admit disappointed on the second morning," he added.

India were well-positioned at the end of day one when Rohit walked in join Rahane in the middle. He managed to negotiate the remaining overs of the day but was the second wicket to fall on the morning of day two, thereby failing to make the most of a good start.

India were bowled out for 408 in their first innings.
