Ryan McLaren has been ruled out of Zimbabwe tri-series after suffering hairline fracture in his right arm

South African all-rounder Ryan McLaren was ruled out of the remainder of the tri-series in Zimbabwe after suffering a hairline fracture in his right arm due to a blow from Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson in the ODI on Tuesday.

McLaren was hit on his right forearm in the 29th over of the South African innings by a short delivery from Mitchell Johnson. He was batting on 3 at that time and went on to add another 21 runs before being dismissed by Kane Richardson. Australia won the match by 62 runs.

On Wednesday afternoon, South African team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee said that McLaren experienced severe pain in his arm.

“Ryan was taken for X-rays this afternoon after complaining of severe pain following a blow to his right forearm yesterday. The scans revealed a hairline fracture to the bone in the right forearm, which rules him out of action for the next three weeks,” Moosajee said.

This is not the first time this year when McLaren has been injured by Johnson. In the Test series earlier this year, he was hit on his head by a bouncer from Johnson, which ruled him out of the 2nd Test.

South Africa face Zimbabwe in their last group match today. The final is scheduled on September 6, with Australia having qualified already.
