South Africa win T-20 versus West Indies

After the T-20 bonanza ended in the Caribbean a few days ago, the place is back with more T-20 after a short break. South Africa beat West Indies by 13 runs in a low scoring T-20 encounter. This was the first of the two T-20 internationals to be played, the second match will be played today at Antigua.

Jacques Scored 53 of 45 balls.

The South Africans seemed to be suffereing from the same weaknesses as they had in the T-20 world Cup. Opening batsman Loots Bosman failed again, and Jacques Kallis played a long yet slow innings. Kallis came at one-down to score 53 runs of 45 balls before falling to Kieron Pollard. After this the lower order failed miserably and South Africa could only manage a meager total of 135 in the scheduled 20 overs.

West Indies started off poorly as they lost both their openers in quick succession. Chris Gayle who could have blown the total away with his firepower could only manage 14 runs. Dwayne Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan tried to show some resistance but the South Africans had tasted blood and would not budge. Ryan Mclaren was the main destructor as he took away the sting out of the West Indies batting. He ended up with a fiver that is rare in T-20 cricket.

South Africa are due to play 5 OdI’s and 3 test matches after these two scheduled T-20’s.
