Stats and records for a cricket lover are synonymous to books for a scientist and a paint brush for a painter. There is no finer beauty in looking for new stats and seeing the old records tumble.

If you're one of those stats-obsessed people too, then yesterday was tailor-made made for you. From Bengaluru to St. George's in the Caribbean, two thrillers from two different parts of the world gave the fans a lot of reason to cheer.

Let's look at interesting numbers from the two matches.

50+ is Virat Kohli's average in T20 internationals after his unbeaten 72 at the Chinnaswamy. In doing so, he has become the only player to have a 50-plus average in all the three formats. He had already achieved the feat earlier but a few low scores in T20Is last year saw his average dip. His average in Tests is 53.76 and an astounding 59.50 in ODIs.

24 - Number of sixes hit by England last night, surpassing Windies' tally of 23 from last week.

46 - It was six-hitting carnage in St. George's as the crowd saw as many as 46 shots sail over the boundary ropes. Chris Gayle and Jos Buttler struck 26 sixes combined. The previous record was 38 at Bengaluru in 2013 when India and Australia struck 19 apiece. That was the match in which Hitman Rohit Sharma struck his first double century.

Buttler scored 105 runs off the last 10 overs.

76 - Balls taken by Jos Buttler to reach his 150. It was the second fastest 150, behind AB de Villiers who struck it in 64 balls against the same opposition on the same date four years ago, at World Cup 2015. Gayle also became the fourth fastest to 150 en route his 97 ball 162. He brought up his 150 in 85 balls.

Maxwell's heroics overshadowed Kohli's brilliance.

3 - Number of T20I centuries for Glenn Maxwell. He became only the third batsman after Rohit Sharma (4) and Colin Munro (3) to score 3 or more T20I hundreds. It was Maxi's unbeaten 113 that helped Aussies get over the line and seal the series 2-0.

Gayle special: It was a day that belonged to Gayle as he whistled past records. He became only the 14th player and second Caribbean one to score 10,000 ODI runs. He also brought up 300 sixes in ODIs; his tally is just behind Shahid Afridi's 351, but he leads the latter when it comes to international sixes. The 'Universe Boss' has entered the territory of 500 international sixes, a feat never accomplished.
