The First Cricket World Cup was played in 1975. It was won by West Indies. The West Indies team with some world class fast bowlers and great batsmen continued to dominate the game from 1975 to 1983. India started as the underdogs in the 1983 World Cup . They almost lost to Zimbabwe in their opening games. Kapil Dev saved them from a humiliating defeat.

1987 World Cup
It was held in India and Pakistan and called the Reliance Cup. After their historic win in 1983, India started as firm favourites.
But Australia won the trophy beating England.India lost in the semi-finals. It was the beginning of the downfall of West Indies cricket.
