The Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper has a great chance of making it to Australia. India doesn't have a backup for Rishab Pant at present. Ishan presents with a like for like backup- a fearless young batsman who has the same amount of talent as Rishab Pant.
India's premier Test match wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha is most probably out of the tour and same might hold true for Dinesh Karthik, who had a horrible series against England.
Parthiv Patel is pretty much out of contention and the fact that, Ishan Kishan has been on the selectors' radar boosts his chances of getting selected. He has been playing for India A recently and it will be a good chance for India to nurture another young talent.
Format he should be considered for: A backup for Rishab Pant in Test matches and can also provide the team with another opener.
