Top 5 six hitters in T20 cricket
Excitement and power hitting are synonymous with T20s. The world is blessed to have thick edged bats and batsmen with broad and monstrous forearms. Together, they make T20 what it is today- a run fest.
Watching batsmen clear the ropes on a regular basis is what gives T20 cricket an “OOMPH!!!” factor. Six hitting is an art in itself and it requires tremendous skills on the part of the batsman to hit the ball with such conviction on a regular basis. Let us take a look at the top 5 six hitters in the T20 format: these are the guys who made you jump out of your seats and dance and shout a million times.
Unlike the Pakistani team, this list will always have a settled person at the top and he is none other than the mighty Jamaican, Christopher Gayle. He is a six hitting machine. No matter who the bowler, no matter what the conditions, no matter how many fielders on the boundary lines, this guy just knows one way to score and that is by whacking the ball out of the park. Those big forearms and the short arm jab make him one of the most feared batsmen in the world.
No ground is big enough for this strongly built Jamaican. When he hits the ball, they stay hit. I still remember him hitting Brett Lee for a huge six over mid wicket in the 2nd T20 world cup. That was one strong blow. He has been a terrific IPL player and I hope he keeps treating us with his lusty blows.
2. Kieron Pollard(200 sixes)
Another powerhouse from the Caribbean who took the world by storm with his clean hitting. His journey to fame started in the 2009 edition of the Champions League T20, when he scored a blistering 18-ball 54 to single-handedly take Trinidad to a win against the New South Wales. Since then, this tall West Indian hasn’t looked back. He has entertained the crowds with some swashbuckling innings in the middle order and with some towering sixes. He is a T20 specialist and can win you games from near impossible situations.
His six hitting ability has won him a secured spot in Mumbai Indians as well as in his national side. Lets hope he keeps striking the ball with all his might and keeps entertaining us.
3. David Hussey(197 sixes)
This man thrives on timing rather than hitting the ball hard. He is one player on this list who is not very strongly built but packs a punch. His effortless stroke play has won him accolades and hearts all around the globe. He has shown us all that hitting sixes is not all about the muscle, it’s about the finesse too. David Hussey always comes across as a real busy player, who believes more in rotating the strike and hitting the odd ball to the boundary and so, his presence in this list came as quite a surprise. But trust me when I say he can hit the ball many a mile.
4. Ross Taylor(186 sixes)
Who is that guy who gets down on one knee and slog sweeps numerous balls over the mid wicket boundary? Yes! It is none other than New Zealand’s Ross Taylor. His obsession with the mid wicket boundary exceeds Rakhi Sawant’s obsession with her own looks. He literally slaps the ball to the mid wicket boundary and does that with some authority. He is the sort of match winner which every team wishes to possess.
The last IPL season was a nightmare for him where even though Delhi performed beautifully, well, Ross played way below his high standards. Glimpses of the old Ross were seen a few times but never did he actually catch the imagination of the viewer. Lets hope that was the last time we saw him play that way.
The guy who gave the IPL the perfect start with his 158 in the first ever game is 5th on this list. This New Zealander gives the ball quite a tonk. He is muscular and can clear grounds (not just boundaries) quite easily. He is all about the power. His improvisations are beyond imagination. Like Hayden he very much enjoys charging down the track or sometimes, just walking towards the bowler and giving ball a huge thump over the offside . Sixes just flow from this guy’s blade.
This was my list of the top 5 hitters of the ball in world cricket. ENTERTAINMENT GUARANTEED! What do you think?
