The most-awaited wedding ceremony was finally held. And it looked just as beautiful as expected!

After slipping and sliding past numerous media rumours and reports in the past few weeks, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, have finally tied the knot in a close-knit ceremony in Italy over the weekend.

No sooner was the official announcement made than social media across the country went into a frenzy. The biggest star-couple of the country is now hitched, and the fans, understandably, will not be able to rein in their excitement anytime soon.

The intimate ceremony will be a topic of conversation for a long time now and the beautiful pictures from the event will surely bring a smile to fans' faces.

The pair got married in a setting that was nothing short of a fairytale. Right from the number of attendees of the occasion to the soon-to-follow reception, here's everything you need to know about the ceremony:

#1 The celebrations went on through the weekend in the form of functions like the haldi and mehendi, followed by the ring ceremony, to finally end with the gorgeous wedding ceremony on Monday (December 11).

#2 The two were dating ever since working together on a shampoo advertisement, and finally decided to exchange rings four years later.

#3 The wedding took place at a resort called Borgo Finocchieto in Tuscany. The place is a restored form of the beautiful 800-year-old heritage preserved in Italy, and is a very exclusive location.

#4 The number of guests that were present at the wedding was as little as 44, which indicates that both the parties wanted it to be a private and peaceful affair.

#5 The ceremony was conducted as per traditional Hindu rituals, with the Sharma family's priest accompanying them on the trip.

#6 The appearance and dressing of both the bride and groom were handled by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for all the functions.

#7 In a heartwarming decision by the newlyweds, all the exclusive pictures from the wedding will reportedly be sold by the couple to a trending American magazine. The amount collected thereby will be donated to charity.

#8 Two grand-scale receptions will be hosted by the pair in New Delhi and Mumbai on December 21 and December 26 respectively. The former will be attended by their close relatives and friends, while the event in Mumbai will see cricketers and Bollywood stars on its elite guest list.

#9 Fun fact: Sharma's debut film, titled 'Rab ne bana di jodi', released on December 12, 2008. She is married to the right-handed batsman exactly nine years after that, to materialize those very words in real-life.

#10 The duo will now travel to South Africa together, where Kohli and his men will take on the hosts on a full-fledged cricketing tour. Sharma is set to return to India thereafter to resume shooting for her upcoming projects.

#11 The two have already purchased a dream home in Worli, Mumbai and will reside there once they have both returned from their respective work commitments.
