Virat Kohli's debut in International Cricket

Now that Virat Kohli is a star and has developed a certain penchant for score either a fifty or a hundred at regular intervals, people have forgotten about his debut.This talented lad debuted in the 5-match ODI Series against Sri lanka in August 2008. He was given a chance as both Sehwag and Sachin were injured and he opened the batting to score 12 runs in his first match. But he was given this chance after heaps of stellar performances at the junior level. First he averaged 105 in the ODI Series against England Under-19 in England and then he backed it up with a solid performance against Pakistan Under-19. His first broke into news when he played against Karnataka the day after the demise of his father where he scored 90.

Kohli executes a drive

After that everyone knows that he was the captain of the World Cup victorious Under-19 team of India in the year 2008 and showed a keen tactical understanding of the game by inflicting frequent and effective bowling changes. He was finally called up for the Sri lankan tour after a splendid performance in the emerging Players’ Tournament in Aurtralia in which he scored a century in the finals against South Africa leading India to win.After a mere 12 in his first match, he scored an important 37 in the second match which India won and levelled the series. He then score his first fifty in the fourth match, scoring fifty four and setting up the series win for India. After this series, as sachin returned, Kohli was dropped. He later came back into the squad as a reserve player for Yuvraj and Sachin and capitalized on the opportunities he got. In the tri-nations tournament in Bangladesh, he stamped his authority and then was named the vice-captain for the tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and there he became the fastest Indian to cross the 1000 mark. The rest is history as he has already broken several batting records before turning 25 and is currently the Vice Captain of the Indian team for all three formats.
