Virender Sehwag hits Shoaib Akhtar for a six.....off the pitch this time.

Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag trolled his famed rival Shoaib Akhtar on Twitter. Taking advantage of India’s record-breaking 5-1 win over Pakistan at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in hockey, the Nawab of Najafgarh showed his humorous side by mocking the former Pakistan pacer.

When India and Pakistan face off on the field, everybody sits up and takes note, be it in cricket or any other sport. Today, the two neighbouring countries faced off on the hockey turf in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia, where India were at their best, hammering Pakistan 5-1 to register their biggest ever win over their rivals.

After the match, the mini-blogging site, Twitter, was abuzz with jokes and Viru, as Sehwag is fondly called, joined in on the fun. In 2015, during the ICC Cricket World Cup, Star Sports began a series of advertisements titled ‘Mauka Mauka’ which started with India making fun of Pakistan for their failure to beat the men in blue at the World Cup. The 37-year-old trolled Akhtar by saying that Pakistan couldn’t grab their mauka (chance) even in hockey.

Here is the tweet which is doing the rounds on Twitter:

For non-Hindi speakers, this is what his tweet translates to: “Sorry Shoaib Akhtar bro, you failed to grab the chance in hockey as well”

It is well known that Sehwag likes to face Pakistan, a battle which reached its height during the 2003 World Cup when the swashbuckling opener smashed the Pakistani bowlers out of the park en route to another India win. Even after his retirement, Sehwag continues to haunt the Pakistanis with his quirky quotes.

However, this wasn’t the first time the two famed rivals were involved in friendly banter. During the 2016 World T20, the two joined hands to commentate at the tournament, sharing their wisdom. But, it were the duo’s hilarious comments and banter that grabbed the headlines as Sehwag constantly teased his counterpart.

He constantly derided Akhtar during commentary by reminding him about the time India got the better of the Rawalpindi Express’ former team each chance he got. Hilarious comments like “4 overs, 54 runs. This kind of a score is what India gets regularly against Pakistan” were a regular feature when the duo took to the commentary box as he roasted the 40-year-old time and again.

Akhtar, to his credit, has been taking Sehwag’s comments in a very sporting manner and referred to the former Indian opener as a brother.

Sehwag’s tweet is sure to ruffle some feathers among the Pakistan faithful, but it was rib-tickling nonetheless.
