The five-match ODI series between India and Australia began today at Hyderabad. Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first. India went with two all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, and Vijay Shankar. The visitors lost their captain Aaron Finch for a duck and his dismal record against India continued. He recorded his second duck against India in the last three innings. Australia were not going well as they kept losing the wickets at regular intervals. Usman Khawaja was the top scorer for them with 50 runs. Glenna Maxwell got out for 40. Mohammad Shami bowled brilliantly and took two wickets for India. Ravindra Jadeja conceded only 33 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Australia ended the innings with a modest total of 7/236 in 50 overs.India lost Shikhar Dhawan very early. The left-hander got out for a golden duck against Australia for the second time in 2019. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma kept the runs flowing. Kohli was dismissed at 44, LBW to Adam Zampa. Rohit departed after 37 runs, taking 66 balls in the process, which is quite unusual for him. India got a great opportunity to see how the middle order fared in the chase after losing the top order. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav spent some quality time in the middle and also made sure that the scoreboard kept moving. Jadhav scored a brilliant half half-century and paced his innings beautifully by hitting boundaries whenever needed. Dhoni continued with his form against Australia and scored fourth consecutive ODI half century against them. Jadhav scored a match-winning unbeaten 81 runs and Dhoni supported him really well. The partnership helped India to record their first win in this series and India leads the five match series 1-0. Here is what the players had to say after the game:Virat KohliIt was a difficult sort of a game. We did a good job with the ball. You have experience with MS and flair with Kedar. I think Kedar and MS took responsibility, it was great. Ten overs for less than 35 is a great job on this pitch. He set his fields on his game. He was all geared up that 'I want to finish the game.' Kuldeep's been doing it for a while. I have never seen Shami so lean. Got Maxi out with a beautiful ball. Heading into the World Cup, it's a great sign for India.Aaron FinchI think were 20 or 30 runs short. I thought our bowlers did a terrific job. It's not as if they are trying to get out. We certainly tried our best with the ball. I think the quick were good when they were banging it in. You have to continue taking wickets when you play against good teams.Kedar JadhavMy bowling is all about reading batsmen's mind. I tried to bowl stump-to-stump. I don't think like I'm a bowler. I enjoy my responsibility. Recently in Australia, we pulled off similar kind of chase. I just did that again today. I tried to learn a lot from him Dhoni. MS and Cheeku are the best chasers in the game. That's what we learn from the captain and that's what we tried to do. I tried to play more shots early. He reads your mind, team needs more solidity. Every time you think the team, most of the times, you'll end up on the winning side.Mohammed Shami We have worked hard as a team. And we are getting the results. Hopefully, we will perform well in the future too. I have been through lot of ups and down in my life. Cricket has made my life and I want to give my best for my team. I speak to experienced cricketers whenever I need some advice. Here is how Twitter reacted:Ayaz Memon@msdhoni may have played second fiddle to Jadhav, but he’s shown yet again that when it comes to shepherding the side out of difficult situations, he’a still the bossman.
