The T20 World Cup which is being hosted by Sri Lanka is coming up next month and there are a few factors which suggest that India has all the chances to bring back the T20 world cup home after 5 years. The venue itself is the biggest advantage for the Indians, all thanks to the BCCI, who ensured that the team toured Sri Lanka just a month prior to the T20 World Cup. As such, apart from Sri-Lanka, India will comparatively be more familiar with the conditions, than the other nations. The Indians have already had a feel of these Sri Lankan pitches, on which they will be playing in the round robin stage. With India having won both the matches at this venue, chasing targets in excess of 250, it is surely going to boost their confidence. Also, the IPL experience has given India an advantage too.
For Virat Kohli, India’s Man of the Moment, the word “Sri-Lanka” translates to good luck and lots of runs. Having scored 5 of his 13 centuries against Sri Lanka and 2 of them coming in the last series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, he is one man who’ll give the current Indian line-up a shot in the arm. India will also look up to Irfan Pathan to bring glory. Being the highest wicket taker in the last series against Sri Lanka and taking 3 wickets in the only T20 game just shows how much he is enjoying his current form. With his swing, he will surely be the key bowler India will rely upon in tough situations. With Yuvraj Singh making a return in the World T20, it will be a delight to watch him get amongst the runs, as he has been India’s “go-to” man in all the World Cups, with an average of above 30 in T20. He can also bowl pretty well on the sub-continent pitches and that’s something which we have already seen in the ODI world cup.
Last but not the least, is India’s man with the ‘Midas touch’, MS Dhoni, the same man who took a similar young squad and brought out their talents in front of the world, to bring the first T20 World cup to India. A few of these youngsters on the national team were also a part of this year’s IPL, which had so many close finishes. They are expected to fare well on the international scene too after rubbing shoulders with the greats of the game in the IPL (like Ashoke Dinda training under Wasim Akram). With such a vast talent in the present team, it definitely has the capability to win this year’s World Cup. Wishing the Indian team “all the best” for the T20 worldCup and we hope that they repeat the 2007 T20 feat yet again.
