Chris Gayle had already equaled Shahid Afridi's record of most international sixes long ago. Both were at 476 sixes each. Finally, the Jamaican born left-hander got the opportunity to surpass that record. When he hit Moeen Ali for a six in the 15th over, he broke the record of hitting the most number of sixes in international cricket.
Afridi's long withstanding record now finally stands broken. Gayle now has 98 sixes in Tests, 287 Sixes in ODI and 103 sixes in T20I cricket. In total, he now has amassed a total of 488 sixes.
He recently announced that he will retire from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup. However, before he retires, the left-hander has a bright opportunity to become the first cricketer smash 500 sixes in international cricket.
