Vijay Shankar is without a doubt one lucky fellow. The stylish all-rounder was included in the World Cup squad at the last moment in place of Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant as the selectors were impressed by his all-around abilities. However, Shankar has failed to impress in the IPL and the practigames and is likely to warm the bench in the initial stages of the tournament.

When given a chance, Shankar needs to find runs with the bat and bowl 3-4 tight overs. If he fails to grab his chances, he might not get another chance and this tournament could end being the last of the Tamil Nadu all-rounder we may get to see on the International stage. With other options like Jalaj Saxena and Shivam Dube in the ranks; Shankar does not have any room for error.
