New Zealand vs Pakistan
New Zealand vs Pakistan

There will be a lot at stake when Pakistan take on New Zealand in Edgbaston on Wednesday in the World Cup. New Zealand can further consolidate their position at the top of the standings with a win against Pakistan. Considering their poor net run rate, Pakistan knows that they can't afford to lose any match if they want to qualify for the knockouts. The men in green edge the head to head battle between the two teams by 54-48.

New Zealand is one of only two only unbeaten teams in the tournament. Their healthy net run rate means that they are almost certain to qualify for the semi-finals. The Kiwis are now fighting to finish the group stage on the first spot which will mean that they will face the 4th placed team in semis.

Pakistan got off to a horrible start as they were thrashed in their first match of the tournament. They managed to earn just three points in their first five matches which meant they virtually to need every match to have a chance to qualify for knockouts. The Asian team would be high on confidence after beating South Africa on Sunday, but they need to continue the good work vs Kiwis.

If New Zealand bat first

In the last two matches, New Zealand top order has failed to deliver but they have been bailed out by their captain, Kane Williamson. The Kiwi captain has led his team from the front as he has scored two centuries in a row.

Pakistan bowled well against South Africa and they need to do a similar job vs New Zealand. The Kiwis should be able to post a score around 320-330 on the board.

If Pakistan bat first

Pakistan's batting line up has been very inconsistent throughout the tournament. The batsmen were at their best vs South Africa as they managed to post a score of 308 on the board.

New Zealand has better bowling up than South Africa so it won't be easy for Pakistan. The 1992 World Champions should be able to score 280-290 in the first innings.

Who will win?

While Pakistan did well to beat South Africa, the Kiwis might prove to be too strong for them. New Zealand is the favourites to win the match and virtually end Pakistan's run in the World Cup.
