Performance woes continue with Fallout New Vegas as PC users are now continuing to face constant crashes with the game on their system. It has been a long-standing issue in the title for a while now and there does not seem to be a permanent fix for it yet. However, there are some community-found workarounds along with temporary solutions suggested by Bethesda themselves. While it may not permanently root out the issue, it can reduce the frequency of crashes.

Today’s Fallout New Vegas guide will go over how you will be able to deal with the crashing issue on PC.

How to fix the “keeps crashing on PC” error in Fallout New Vegas

Here are a few fixes that you can try to fix the PC crashing issues on Fallout New Vegas”

1) Run New Vegas in Admin mode

One of the easier solutions can be to run the game on Administrator Mode. To do this, you will need to locate the Nee Vegas launcher on your desktop or from the installation directory. Right-click on it, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility Tab, check the “run this program as an administrator” tag.

Once done, there will be an admin prompt every time you try and run the game. Hopefully, this will reduce the frequency of crashes.

2) Scan and fix files

The error might be occurring because there are some corrupt files in the installation directory. To fix it, go to Steam Library, select the game right-click on it, then click on Properties, and then in the drop-down menu you can click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.

This will start a process that will automatically go over all the files in the installation directory and replace the ones that may be corrupted.

3) Run the game on Windows compatibility mode

Fallout New Vegas might be having issues with Windows compatibility. To fix it, you will need to find the launcher, which can be in the following directories:

  • Steam Users: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas
  • Epic users: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fallout New Vegas
  • Microsoft Xbox App users: C:\XboxGames\Fallout- New Vegas Ultimate Edition (PC)\Content

After finding the launcher, right-click on it and then select “Troubleshoot Program” from the “Troubleshoot Compatibility” tab.

Now check the “The Program required additional permissions” box and select “Next”. You need to click on “Test the Program” next and then select “Yes” to save the settings and close the troubleshooter.

4) Allow New Vegas on Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall might be blocking your access to Fallout New Vegas, thereby crashing the game. To solve it you need to open the Firewall & Network Protection, you will find this under your Windows Security settings.

You need to click on Allow and select New Vegas from the list of applications. Now click on “Change Settings” and select “Add Another App”. Select New Vegas and add it to the Exception List.

Once added, the Firewall will not block the title any longer.

5) Update your GPU drivers

If your GPU drivers are not updated, it may cause the game to frequently crash. You can update your graphics drivers from the desktop application of your respective card. However, you can also do it manually from the official website:

  • Nvidia users can click here
  • AMD users can click here

If the above fixes do not work for you, then you might want to reach out to Bethesda Support and log in a complaint.
