Fallout is a role-playing video game developed and published by Interplay Productions. The game features a post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic setting, taking place in the mid-22nd century decades after a global nuclear war. The game was released in 1997.
The game was available for MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS and OS X. The series is often regarded to be the spiritual success for Wasteland, which was published all the way back in 1988 by Interplay Productions.
The protagonist of Fallout is an inhabitant of a Vault, part of a network of nuclear shelters, who is forced to venture out into the wastes to find a replacement part to fix their Vault's failing water supply system and save their fellow Vault dwellers.
As for the next entry into the franchise, Fallout 5, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has confirmed that the game is something that is on their mind. However, fans should not expect the title to materialize anytime soon.
