Fortnite ended its last season in the most dramatic manner, where a black hole destroyed the world and everything in it. Then Fortnite came back with Chapter 2, bringing with it some great new additions to the map, Battle Pass and more.

There have been some guns that stuck around and some that got vaulted before Chapter 2 begun. In fact, you don't even need a gun as you can even deal damage with special trophies like the Mythic Goldfish.

So what are the best guns in Fortnite Chapter 2? We're ranking this in four tiers, namely S-Tier, A-Tier, B-Tier and C-Tier, which represent the best guns to the worst guns. You can also upgrade the damage of your weapon by upgrading the rarity.

S-Tier

#1 Assault Rifle

Left: Common M16, Right: Upgraded SCAR
Left: Common M16, Right: Upgraded SCAR
  • Common: 30
  • Uncommon: 31
  • Rare: 33
  • Epic: 35
  • Legendary: 36

The Assault Rifle is a classic weapon that has been around since Fortnite's inception and hasn't been vaulted either. It doesn't have the highest damage among the guns but it is the most versatile among all weapons.

The Assault Rifle is viable at short, medium and long range. The Epic/Legendary version of the Rifle known as SCAR is one of the most desired weapons among Fortnite players for a reason.

#2 Tactical Shotgun

Regular vs Upgraded Tactical Shotgun
Regular vs Upgraded Tactical Shotgun
  • Common: 71
  • Uncommon: 75
  • Rare: 79
  • Epic: 83
  • Legendary: 87

The two most preferred Shotguns are the Tactical Shotgun and the Pump Shotgun. The Tactical Shotgun has a faster firing rate, although it has lesser damage than the Pump Shotgun. That makes it much better and a generally great weapon to have around.

Of course, both shotguns can be used very well. It's just a matter of personal preference and what works best for you in whichever situation.

#3 Submachine Gun (SMG)

Standard vs Upgraded SMG

  • Common: 17
  • Uncommon: 18
  • Rare: 19
  • Epic: 20
  • Legendary: 21

The SMG is a classic weapon that has also been around for a long time in Fortnite's history. It is not the best in terms of damage but SMGs can be absolutely devastating in close combat because of their extremely high fire rate.

In Chapter 2, the SMG was renamed regular SMG and the upgraded one is the Compact SMG. It is recommended to carry it in your inventory in case you need a lightweight and heavy firing gun.

A-Tier

#1 Pump Shotgun

Latest upgrades
Latest upgrades
  • Common: 70
  • Uncommon: 80
  • Rare: 90
  • Epic: 100
  • Legendary: 110

The stronger, slower version of the Tactical Shotgun. The Pump Shotgun is slow to fire and slow to reload but it can do some really good burst damage if you shoot it right. It has become somewhat weaker in Chapter 2 compared to previous iterations of the game.

But the upgraded Epic/Legendary version of the Pump Shotgun is very strong and it can even qualify to be an S-Tier weapon.

#2 Burst Assault Rifle

  • Common: 27
  • Uncommon: 29
  • Rare: 30
  • Epic: 32
  • Legendary: 33

The Burst Assault Rifle has been around for a while as well but it has always been somewhat weak. But the upgraded Epic/Legendary version of this weapon is new to Fortnite and was only updated in Chapter 2.

It is somewhat more haphazard and deals a lot less damage than the regular Assault Rifle. But the new Epic/Legendary versions have made it an interesting weapon nonetheless.

B-Tier

#1 Rocket Launcher

Changes in the rocket launcher
Changes in the rocket launcher
  • Common: 70 - 4.7s reload time
  • Uncommon: 85 - 4.1s reload time
  • Rare: 100 - 3.6s reload time
  • Epic: 115 - 3.1s reload time
  • Legendary: 130 - 2.5s reload time

Rocket Launchers before Chapter 2 were limited to higher rarities. But for the first time, there are now Common and Uncommon tiers of Rocket Launchers. You may have noticed that they are around a lot more frequently now.

But the lower rarities of the Rocket Launcher aren't very good. It does too little damage for too much reload time and takes up a lot of inventory space. It's definitely worth having an upgraded Rocket Launcher but if you are spending material to do so, it's worth spending it on something else.

C-Tier

#1 Pistol

Changes in Pistol
Changes in Pistol
  • Common: 24
  • Uncommon: 25
  • Rare: 26
  • Epic: 28
  • Legendary: 29

Ah, the Pistol. A classic but not a very good classic. Just like the Burst Assault Rifle, the Pistol has also received a new design in Epic and Legendary rarities. Pistols are weapons for desperation and you should keep it around only if you can't find any other weapons.

#2 Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

Changes in the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
Changes in the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
  • Common: 95 - 3.3s reload time
  • Uncommon: 100 - 3.2s reload time
  • Rare: 105 - 3.0s reload time
  • Epic: 110 - 2.5s reload time
  • Legendary: 116 - 2.3s reload time

Snipers are another classic that has been around in Fortnite since the beginning. Snipers can do a lot of damage if you hit a target but they are generally only useful for long-range shots. It's not very viable to carry around because it also takes up a lot of inventory space. The reload times are usually quite long too.

The Epic and Legendary rarities of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle can be really good though, with a faster reload time and a huge damage potential.
