Hasan "HasanAbi" is a Twitch streamer and political commentator known for his scalding takes that stir up drama and sometimes criticism from netizens. The Turkish-American is known for spearheading the political commentary revolution on the platform. His Just Chatting streams explore various topics, with him reacting to events unfolding in the current political climate and expressing his personal opinions on them.

His informative and expressive views have found their place within the platform, landing him more than a staggering 2.5 million followers. However, these opinions can sometimes come off as offensive, landing him in hot water.

Here, we dive into five controversies that the Twitch commentator found himself in.

Five controversies that HasanAbi has been a part of in the past

1) Using a racially derogatory slur

This incident occurred when, on December 11, 2021, HasanAbi revealed on X that two of his moderators had been banned for the use of the racial epithet "Cr**ker". While addressing this situation, not only did he defend the actions of his moderators, but he also openly used the slur in his Twitch livestream, earning himself a ban in the process.

Afterward, he doubled down on his opinion and refused to retract his statements. The TheYoungTurks host talked about how, according to him, it is "not bad enough" of a term to get banned for.

Many streamers like MizKif and QTCinderella made tweets making fun of the situation Hasan had found himself in and the reason for the ban itself.

On the other hand, when the news of this event reached r/LivestreamFail on Reddit, users seemed displeased with Hasan's use of the epithet, considering it racially charged and insensitive.

2) Saying America deserved it

While commenting on American military interventionism overseas, the 32-year-old made one of his most controversial statements ever. The Twitch star was criticizing a US veteran's supportive stance on overseas intervention by the American military. In the process, he went on an emotionally charged tirade, making insulting remarks towards the US veteran and representative.

However, while further expressing his opinion about how American interventionism bears terrorism and anti-American ideologies, his most contentious comment came as:

"America deserved 9/11, dude."

Needless to say, this stirred up political outrage and sparked a heated debate on social media platforms. Many condemned his statement as insensitive and disrespectful towards the victims of the 9/11 attacks, while others defended his right to freedom of speech and even agreed with him.

3) Criticised for lavish lifestyle

Hasan is a self-proclaimed staunch democrat-socialist and is popular for his left-wing perspectives, as well as the ideologies that he propagates. However, Hasan came under fire for his expensive purchases and extravagant lifestyle, as the star had bought a house worth $2.7 million.

Many considered this a betrayal of his political ideology. Others defended HasanAbi, stating that purchasing an expensive house does not necessarily detract from his socialist perspective.

In a similar but recent instance, fellow streamer Destiny criticized HasanAbi for saying he lives on a "basic necessity budget."

4) Calling out Dr. Disrespect publicly

HasanAbi has never shied away from expressing how he truly feels, sometimes even targeting popular names such as the 'Two-Time'. When fellow streamer Nickmercs allegedly made transphobic comments on X, Activision responded by removing the skin and bundle under his name from the game.

Dr. Disrespect reacted by uninstalling the game entirely and live-streaming himself doing it. Hasan called Doc out for this with an explosive comment:

"He is more loyal to Nickmercs having his skin... than his own wife, I know."

Nickmercs was furious at the remark, stating how HasanAbi was now "dead to him". However, as Reddit users hilariously pointed out, HasanAbi was reading out from his chat on the livestream, and not making the statement himself.

5) Mocking Nicki Minaj

On September 14, 2021, Nicki Minaj tweeted about not getting the COVID-19 vaccination just for the Met Gala and instead would get it done once she had "done enough research." HasanAbi promptly responded to American rapper Nicki Minaj's post on X.

The sarcastic remark seemingly mocked her scientific know-how and awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine. This led to him becoming a target for fans of the American hip-hop icon. On the other side, he was lauded by Twitch Netizens for managing to "ratio" the artist in what became one of his most iconic tweets.
