Honkai Star Rail: Who are the characters in Welt Yang's splash art?

Honkai Star Rail features a wide roster of playable characters, of which perhaps the most intriguing is Welt Yang. He is a senior member of the Astral Express and a seasoned fighter hailing originally from the world of Honkai Impact 3rd. Prior to the events of Honkai Star Rail, Yang was the first Herrscher and leader of the Anti-Entropy organization.

The more eagle-eyed viewers will notice that Welt Yang's character portrait contains glimpses of various other characters not present in the Star Rail universe. Four characters are observable in the splash art, all from his past life in Honkai Impact 3rd.

Welt Yang’s splash art in Honkai Star Rail features four important characters from Honkai Impact 3rd

A total of four separate characters can be observed in Welt Yang’s portrait in Honkai Star Rail when successfully summoning him. Each character is a close part of his childhood and helped define the man he is now. They are from his past life in the world of Honkai Impact 3rd. The four characters include:

1. The Void Archives

The antagonist of A Post Honkai Odyssey and the first Divine Key, Void Archives, was created by Vill-V in the Previous Era. After spending centuries as the tool and prisoner of Otto Apocalypse, he was finally able to escape - but had inherited Otto’s appearance and mannerisms in the process.

Due to both his relationship with Otto and his presence as a major antagonist in a part of Honkai Impact 3rd, he is included as part of the splash art for Welt.

2. Frederica Nikola Tesla

The hot-blooded redhead scientist and founding member of the Anti-Entropy, Frederica Nikola Tesla, is described as one of the greatest scientists ever. She is friends with both Welt Yang and Einstein. Tesla is described as impatient and often resorts to violence with expletives, especially when put under pressure.

Despite her rough exterior, Tesla continues to prove herself a great leader and inventor, saving the main cast of Honkai Impact 3rd from countless dangers and remaining a close ally to Welt.

3. Lieserl Albert Einstein

Lieserl Albert Einstein, or simply Einstein, is also one of the co-founders of Anti-Entropy - alongside Tesla. She is a brilliant scientist and the complete opposite of Tesla, being more cool-headed in comparison.

Einstein is also a childhood friend of Welt and Tesla. She is responsible for the many miraculous inventions present in Honkai Impact 3rd.

4. Welt Joyce

The original first Herrscher, Welt Joyce, was the former leader of Anti-Entropy. He was the hero of Welt Yang and is primarily responsible for shaping the man Yang is today.

Joyce died before the in-game events of Honkai Impact 3rd in an attempt to save Joachim and New York from Otto. Joachim then inherited the core from Joyce, replacing him as the next 1st Herrscher, deciding to base his new form on the likeness of his hero.

Welt Joyce is perhaps the most influential person in Joachim’s life and occupies a large portion of the splash art in Honkai Star Rail.

Honkai Star Rail was released on March 26th, 2023, for the PC and mobile platforms as a free-to-play RPG title. A PlayStation port is also in development, due to be released later this year.
