How to fast travel in The Alters

Fast travel in The Alters isn’t something you must grind for hours to unlock— it kicks in pretty early. You’ll get access to it during the prologue, right when you’re completing the Organics Matter task. During the task, you will be asked to build your first Mining Outpost, which counts as your very first fast travel point besides being useful for gathering resources.

Unlocking and using fast travel in The Alters

Once the outpost is built, look around it — you’ll find a panel near the structure. That’s your fast travel terminal. Just walk up to it and interact to open the travel menu. From here, you can hop between Mining Outposts and your main base whenever needed. At the base, there’s a panel right outside the entrance and another inside the airlock for fast travel. It doesn’t matter which one you use — they both do the job.

The good part is that fast travel in The Alters doesn’t cost anything. No resources burned, no time skips. You can use it as much as you want, making it perfect when you're juggling tasks across different locations and don’t want to waste time walking everywhere.

Travel pylons – extending fast travel further

Later in the game, you’ll unlock something called travel pylons. These are extremely useful when exploring areas without outposts but where you still want a nearby fast travel point. First, you must craft them — head to the workshop at the main base to do that.

Once crafted, pylons can be placed anywhere — but each one must be connected to your base through a line of them. So, if your desired spot is far away, you must place a chain of pylons in between to complete the connection. The construction interface will show green lines when they’re properly linked. Only then will it become an active fast travel point.
