Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, has been going through a rough patch lately. From its playtest not even crossing the 10,000 concurrent players mark on Steam, to being accused of plagiarising art from an independent designer, the game has been surrounded by a lot of controversies.
Some reports even claimed that Sony had paused the marketing campaign for the game until further notice.
Considering all this, it was hard for fans to believe that the game would be released on the initial release date of September 23, 2025. Now, the recent Sony Business Segment Meeting 2025 presentation suggests that it will most likely not be released this year after all.
On that note, here's everything we got to know about Bungie's Marathon from Sony's business presentation.

Marathon is now expected by March 2026, according to Sony’s FY25 roadmap
According to Sony’s official FY25 roadmap (page 27 of the presentation), the game is now listed for release sometime before March 2026, which will mark the end of the 2025 fiscal year. This strongly hints that it has been delayed beyond its original release date.
During the presentation, Sony praised Marathon as a bold and innovative entry in the extraction shooter genre. Despite the recent controversies, they seem to be confident in the game's long-term success.
Moreover, Sony mentioned that the game had a strong early engagement, which wasn't really reflected by the number of players who took part in the playtest. It probably refers to their internal testing and not the general public response.
That's everything we know about the game's new possible release window. It looks like Bungie now has more time to refine the game. It would be interesting to see if the audience will be able to look past the mistakes and give the game a second chance in the future.
