2013 Singapore Grand Prix - The good, the bad and the ugly

Sakshi

The most happening race of every season, Singapore GP, proved to be another example of the brilliance of the youngest triple world champion Sebastian Vettel.

The other German, Nico Rosberg, who was on the front row along with Vettel, overtook him when the race began— but it hardly took few seconds for Vettel to get back his position, and from there he led all the 61 laps.

This era of Formula one belongs to Vettel

Winning seven of the 13 races, and a hat trick of wins after the win at Marina Bay, shows the clear dominance of the German over his rivals.

With this win, he extended his lead to 60 points over Fernando Alonso, who is second in the race for the drivers’ title. If this form of Vettel continues, there is nothing which can stop him from winning his fourth straight championship.

It was not just Vettel who was fast; his team, Red Bull Racing, was quickest among all the teams. The crew managed the fastest pit stop in the race. It was 2.8 seconds, both the times when Vettel pitted.

Webber’s engine gives up

Mark Webber is given a lift back to the pits by Fernando Alonso after his engine blew up during the Singapore Grand Prix

Mark Webber is in the final leg of his Formula One career. But things aren’t going his way. He overtook Nico Hulkenberg, Segio Perez and Jenson Button in lap 56 for 4th position which would have been a decent finish, but his engine gave up in the last lap.

After retiring from the race, Webber was given a lift by the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, who finished second, 22 seconds behind Vettel—keeping his chances alive for the title.

Webber entered the track, without the marshal’s permission, to take a lift from Alonso so he was given a reprimand which was his third one for the season. His previous ones came in Bahrain, for contact with Nico Rosberg and in Canada, for driving too quickly when the yellow flags were displayed. The third reprimand gets Webber a ten-place grid penalty in the next race, Korean Grand Prix.

A couple of retirements took place

It was a third retirement in a row for the Sahara Force India driver Paul Di Resta, as he hit his car into the barriers at turn seven in lap 56. Earlier, in lap 25, the Red Bull bound Daniel Ricciardo also hit his car into the barriers and got the safety car into action.

The news broke about Kimi Raikkonen leaving Lotus after the Italian Grand Prix. He admitted recently that he decided to leave Lotus because he is not paid properly. “I want to help the team as much as I can before I leave,” Kimi told this in one of his interviews, three or four days ago. He finished 3rd in Singapore and showed that he was not kidding—he will finish his duties at Lotus loyally.

The upcoming Grand Prix is the Korean GP. Sebastian Vettel being the defending champion will again have an upper hand in the race. Now it’s upon the Ferraris, Mercedes and Lotus to gear up and try stopping this man.
