Adrian Newey has reportedly already signed a contract with Ferrari. According to the Daily Mail, the British aero wizard's deal with the Italian giant is worth more than the £15,000,000 per year he got at Red Bull.

Newey's departure from Red Bull was a major surprise for everyone, as he had been part of the team since 2006. He first joined the team after he was approached by Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. As a part of the founding group that built the team, Newey was instrumental in Red Bull winning its first race in 2009.

The team then won the championship in 2010 with Sebastian Vettel and enjoyed a successful four-year period. After a seven-year barren spell, the Adrian Newey-Red Bull combination, with Max Verstappen, delivered another title in 2021. Newey experience propelled the team to become a dominant force again, with two more titles in 2022 and 2023.

Newey's departure has invited suitors varying from Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin, and even Williams. The Prancing Horses notably signed Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season earlier this year and will hope to end their championship drought, with Newey also reportedly on board.

There are still a few question marks over what role Newey would have.

Ferrari and Adrian Newey have tried to align in the past

Ferrari and Adrian Newey have been linked with each other in the past as well. The team was first supposed to sign Newey in the 1980s when the designer was in his 20s. When that didn't work, the two parties once again came close to joining hands in 1995, when Jean Todt was building a super team.

At the time, since Michael Schumacher was a direct adversary of Ayrton Senna, who passed away in 1994, Newey opted not to go ahead with the deal. Instead, he eventually joined McLaren in 1996.

The designer was last approached by the team in 2014 by Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemelo. At the time, since Adrian Newey was part of a struggling Red Bull team, he didn't want to leave with the Austrian outfit in bad shape.

The dynamics have seemingly changed a decade later between the team and the designer. The move will give Newey the opportunity to achieve the last bastion, i.e. success with Ferrari. Red Bull, on the other hand, has lost one of the key members of its squad and will feel the impact of his exit.
