Button reckons this year's tyres are easier to understand

F1 Testing in Jerez - Day Three

During the last season, Jenson Button complained that his performance was due to a lack of grip as the Pirelli tyres were not working properly with his MP4-27.

Button was one among many drivers complaining about the severe degradation of the tyres during the test runs at Barcelona. Although, he says that he is able to get the tyres to work, before they start to grain.

The McLaren driver said “This year is more difficult in terms of graining than last year, but in terms of understanding the tyre, it’s a lot easier. You can get it in its working range, and you know by lap three or four it’s going to start graining.”

Last year, there were teams who had no issues with their tyres, but did not know why. Button says it is because their cars worked well with those tyres. Other teams struggled to get their cars to work well with the tyres.

Unlike last year’s tyres, which it took teams well over five months to get the them to work properly, the new tyres are easier to understand and to get in their working range.
