After a disappointing outing in Valencia both the McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton has claimed that McLaren should start taking some more risks in order to close the gap on Ferrari and the current leader Red Bull Racing team.

McLaren’s disappointing run continued from the qualifying to the end of the race. In the qualifying session Lewis Hamilton was on P3 behind the Red Bull drivers Vettel and Webber. Jenson Button was even further down the order on P6 behind Felipe Massa’s Ferrari. The dismal form of the British outfit continued in the race when Hamilton was pushed further down the order and Jenson drove a lonely race all day long and didn’t challenge anyone in the grid.

Lewis Hamilton finished on the disappointing P4 a full 46 second behind the race leader Sebastian Vettel. Lewis was not even close to his closest rival Mark Webber who finished the race 18 seconds ahead of the Hamilton. Even though Webber had some gear box issues still Hamilton wasn’t able to come close to him.

The former World Champion Lewis Hamilton slammed McLaren by saying that the team is not willing to take risk even though they had updates for the European Grand Prix. Hamilton while talking to Daily Telegraph said that in the European GP team had some new set of updates that potentially would have given them a performance boost but, because of the reliability issues team opted not to use them. Hamilton also said that if the team would have used the updates it could have worth couple of tenths.

“They didn’t want to take the risk for safety reasons. The question is whether or not we would have finished if we had taken the risk, but then that is what risk is all about. We had another couple of tenths available to us which I think would have been quite strong and it would have helped look after our tyres. I pushed as hard as I could.”

Jenson Button who also did not have a great race after winning the Canadian GP , echoed the same sentiments. After-all given the points table they don’t have anything to lose

“We need to take some risks because behind us is a big gap, in this race anyway, to the Mercedes and the Ferraris are in front of us and the Red Bulls are miles away.”
