Former F1 driver and commentator Martin Brundle previously criticized former Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso for blaming Vitaly Petrov for losing the 2010 drivers' championship. The Spanish driver found himself behind the Renault of the Russian driver for 40 laps after making the pit stop and eventually finished P7.

The two-time F1 world champion was in pole position to win his third title at the pinnacle of motorsport in his debut season for the Italian team heading into the season finale in Abu Dhabi. However, the Russian driver's staunch defense meant that Alonso was unable to finish in P4, which he had to do, whilst his rival and Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won his maiden title.

On the cooldown lap, Fernando Alonso was livid with Vitaly Petrov and expressed his anger towards the latter. Brundle, who was on commentary duties, did not agree with the Ferrari driver's situation and said:

In his post-race interview in 2010, Petrov too was bemused by the ex-world champion's frustration and reflected to The Guardian:

"I did my race, the maximum that I could. I cannot let one car pass me because it is racing. Look at Sebastian in 2008. He was behind [Lewis] Hamilton, who was going for the title, in the final race in Brazil."

"But he passed Lewis, who almost lost the championship. He was also not thinking about who he was battling with. So I didn't do anything other than I kept pushing."

Fernando Alonso had another shot at winning the title in 2012 but lost out to Sebastian Vettel in the final race and is stuck at two world championships till now.

As per PlanetF1, the 43-year-old, whose contract with the British team expires at the end of the 2026 season, said:

“It will be a very important one, yes. Not the final one. I think I need to see how next year starts and how motivated I am. Every year, there is a different mood in the season. I know that a very important decision in life will come for me in the near future when I stop racing."

“And that’s an important decision that I will think carefully. I did stop Formula 1 already once in 2018, and I came back because I needed it. So the next one that I take, it has to be 100 percent sure.”

Fernando Alonso last won in the sport in Spain in 2013 and has only been on the podium a handful of times in the last decade despite driving for teams like McLaren, Alpine, and Aston Martin.
