Sebastian Vettel favours a move for Ricciardo

With Mark Webber set to retire at the end of this season, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel has said that it would make sense for the team to sign Daniel Ricciardo as his team-mate for next season.

“It would make sense for [it to be] Ricciardo as he has been at Red Bull for a long time,” Vettel told BBC Sport.

Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso are also linked with a move to Red Bull for next season. However, team principal Christian Horner has insisted that “nothing has been signed yet”.

The current world champion had previously admitted that he would prefer Raikkonen as his teammate if it was a straight decision between him and Alonso, but has claimed now that opting Ricciardo would be a good choice as he has been part of the team set-up for quite some time.

“People will argue that he might not be ready but was I ready when I joined?,” added Vettel when asked about the inexperience of Ricciardo.
