Force India F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg has won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race on his debut for Porsche.Sharing the #19 car with Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber, Hulkenberg took over the lead in the second half of the race, eventually winning the race by one lap. In the process, he became the first active F1 driver to win at Le Mans since Johnny Herbert in 1991.Mark Webber/Brendon Hartley/Timo Bernhard ensured a 1-2 finish for the German marquee at Le Mans, despite serving a one minute stop/go penalty for speeding in a slow zone.
Audi - who have dominated Le Mans since the turn of the century - ran into all sorts of problems, with the #7 car salvaging a third place finish.Hulkenberg’s maiden victory at Le Mans will drop eggs on the face of those F1 teams who didn’t sign the German, when they had a chance to. The 27 year old has consistently performed in the midfield but was always snubbed by one driver or another.
