Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has admitted that he has been not doing well enough so far after the Spaniard finished below outgoing teammate Felipe Massa in the Japanese GP qualifying.

“I’ve been eighth, ninth all weekend and didn’t find the pace. In qualifying I’m eighth again, so I’m not doing good enough so far and I try to recover some positions tomorrow,” he said.

Alonso only managed to finish eight in the qualifying which was dominated by Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel with Webber finishing in pole with Vettel second. Massa, who is all set to leave Ferrari, produced another good performance to finish ahead of Alonso in Fifth place. But Alonso added that he is not surprised or frustrated about the result.

“It’s not frustrating anymore to be honest. For four years we’ve been behind Red Bull. We were seventh in Korea, we didn’t have the pace. We arrived here five days later and we didn’t expect any miracle. There is no surprise or frustration – no emotions at the moment,” he said.
