Formula One team Marussia has named Kevin Magnussen as a potential replacement of Max Chilton, who is yet to extend a deal with the team for next year.

The team earlier confirmed that Jules Bianchi will stay with them next season but Chilton’s future was still in the doubt with the driver even demanding for an extension. And now Magnussen, who is the son of ex-F1 driver Jan Magnussen, has entered the scenario as a possible candidate for Chilton’s race seat.

“Certainly Kevin has impressed in the tests he has done, and as a team that has brought young drivers into formula one; he is in the frame,” said Marussia sporting director Graeme Lowdon.

Magnussen, Formula Renault 3.5 champion and a McLaren protégé, is also linked with a move to Force India with McLaren keen to find a race seat for him.
