F1 fans were left upset after it was reported that Adrian Newey had rejected Ferrari's offer to join them for the 2025 season. The former Red Bull CTO announced that he would be leaving the Austrian team after completing and delivering the RB17 hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12th.
With one of the most iconic aerodynamicists on the market, several F1 teams on the grid made their bid to poach him for themselves for the 2025 season. Ferrari reportedly made contact with him instantly, with the negotiations reaching beyond initial conversations.
However, as per "Motorsport Italy", the rumors of Adrian Newey joining Ferarri cooled down in the last month, with the former seemingly rejecting the Italian team's offer.
The report claimed that the Ferrari executives weren't in favor of paying the high salary demands of the 65-year-old as Adrian Newey was only in talks of joining the team as a technical consultant and not on a day-to-day basis. The team then shifted their focus on other pressing matters, such as replacing the technical director's post with Enrico Cardile's departure to Aston Martin.
F1 fans took to social media to give their reactions to the news of Adrian Newey rejecting Ferrari on X and were left frustrated by the development, with one claiming that he was done with the sport and Prancing Horses, saying:
"Weāre finished. After 30 years of supporting Ferrari, I think Iām done with F1," said the fan.
"Ferrari have dropped the ball there IMHO," said another.
"When will the pain end?" another wrote.
"Its over for Ferrari see u in 2050," pointed out another.
"With the right to Ferrari there is a lot of pain," mulled another fan.
Red Bull team boss comments on Adrian Newey's RB17
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated that the RB17 hypercar was Adrian Newey's 'utopia' and something the latter always envisioned of creating.
As per "RacingNews365", the Brit said:
āThis car is about is basically Adrian's utopia. It's him let off the leash. There are no FIA constraints, there's no cost cap. You can see influences from all his cars over the years. It has an insane amount of performance."
āEven Max Verstappen would struggle to extract the amount of performance that this car has, such as the level of downforce. It's a celebration now of Adrian's time with the team. It's 50 very special cars.ā
The hypercar is priced at just under £6m with Horner unsure of the future of the racing prospects of the car as he claimed that he wasn't sure "what category it could race in" but hoped to see the car feature at Le Mans, citing the example of another Newey-designed Aston Martin Valkaryie doing the same next year.
