Brookes, who is a renowned F1 presenter, interviewed Verstappen in Spain. It took place in the aftermath of Verstappen's on-track incident with George Russell, where the former received a 10-second time penalty, along with three penalty points.

As the drivers attended the post-race interview, Brookes asked Verstappen if his on-track action on Russell took "some shine" off his abilities. Replying to the question, the Red Bull driver responded with "Well, that's your opinion."

As the interview surfaced on the internet, Brookes was subjected to enormous online hate from fans, and as a result, she disabled the comment section of her X account. Sharing a statement on the same, she wrote on the micro-blogging site:

"I will be posting on here as usual but comments/tags/mentions on here and on X have been disabled for the foreseeable future due to the enormous amounts of vile abuse I was sent after the Spanish GP. I may switch them back on at a later date but for now they will stay off.” (via PlanetF1)

This has come to light after Lee McKenzie, another renowned F1 reporter, addressed the same. McKenzie said she was subjected to multiple vile and horrific comments on the internet.

"The comments about my appearance and weight at the Spanish Grand Prix have been horrific. I’ve had to turn off comments on my social media. It’s worth saying they came from women and men alike," McKenzie wrote on social media. (via PlanetF1)

Notably, the comments on Lee McKenzie have come amid her health issues, for which she had to be hospitalized and undergo an operation.

As Max Verstappen received a 10-second time penalty and three penalty points for his on-track action on George Russell, he was far from pleased. While speaking to the media after the race, the reigning world champion said:

As a result of the penalty, Verstappen finished the race in P10 and lost a chunk of points in the title fight against Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Currently, Max Verstappen is racing with 11 penalty points on his Superlicence. One more penalty point on it, and the Red Bull driver will have to miss a race.
